Big White Racers Come Up Big at BC Ski Cross Championship

Big White Ski Resort, host of the BC Ski Cross championships January 16-17 saw some local young talent take podium finishes in their first ever ski cross races. A cross over event from their regular alpine training these enthusiastic kids from the Big White Racers ski club entered into a whole new world of competing. Coached by Gary Athans and Todd Thornle these racers proved SKI CROSS is something to reckon with.
The weekend’s events saw a combined number of podium finishes from club members with races both days. In the females 10 and under category Brooke Lukinuk clinched 2 gold medals while Sophie Schroeder and Makena Henirich each managed a silver and bronze. Big White Ski Resort hosted the Big White Slopestyle competition this weekend. Although the fog had rolled in, the competitors we still able to show off their talent, with one Big White local placing in the top three in the under 14 age group. Congratulations to Isaac Cormack, shown here doing his 360 stalefish off the large! Sweet! Keep up the good work.
On January 29 and 30th, the The Paxton Bachman Band will be performing at Raakels Ridge Pub. Telus Park Rail Jam!

Last Sunday night was the first of the monthly Telus Park Rail Jam series presented by the Village Rider for the 2009/10 season. Registration started at 1pm by the activities desk in the Villlage Centre Mall and the jam kicked off at 6pm at the bottom of the park. The features included the freshly built up black tube, down rail, and up flat to flat down box. The turn out for the night was great, with almost synchronized sounds of “ooh”, “aaah” and “whoa!!” as the 35 guys and 7 girls stomped (and stacked) tonnes of sick tricks. There were plenty of prizes to be won by participating riders and skiers consisting of cash, ipods and other items from Village Rider.
